ACTIVE ADVENTURERS: Mondays, 10am-11.30am:

Active Adventurers is a fun filled physical session suitable for children aged 18 months - 3 years ( younger siblings welcome).  The session takes place in the school hall.

Younger children are given the opportunity to explore and play with a variety of age appropriate equipment which includes soft foam play, stepping stones, climbing arch and trampoline, in a sectioned off safe area, whilst older children are able to explore and have fun using the large apparatus and other various equipment.

A healthy snack time is provided for the children during the session, which encourages healthy lifestyles.

The session closes with a group interactive activity.

LITTLE CHEFS: Fridays, 12.30pm -2.30pm:

This is a free 6-week course for parents/carers and children aged 2yrs - 4yrs to come and have fun cooking their lunch with new and exciting healthy recipes.

This course gives parents/carers and their children the opportunity to learn basic cooking skills and gain confidence in the kitchen.

One of the greatest benefits of children learning to cook is the sense of achievement and self-sufficiency that they experience. More importantly, they are likely to be less picky about eating food if they have helped to prepare and cook.

Booking is required for this Group.

BABY BOUNCE GIGGLE & WIGGLE: Mondays, 1.30pm-2.30pm:

Baby Bounce Giggle & Wiggle is a wonderful interactive way for parents and carers to introduce their babies and toddlers upto 2yrs to nursery rhymes, singing and action songs.

Action songs such as Incy Wincy Spider may seem like simple fun to us adults, but sharing these action rhymes with your baby/toddler can really enhance skills such as language and communication, hand eye co-ordination and social skills.

Using simple musical instruments, parachute play, colourful scarves ad puppets that match the rhymes, enhance the enjoyment of the sessions for the children and their parents.

It is known that a baby who has had nursery rhymes sung to them from an early age, is more likely to develop a strong sense of well being as they grow.

Introducing music and songs at an early age to your child promotes:-

It is evident from the attendance, and the comments we have had from parents /carers, that this has proven to be a very popular group.

This session is held at The Lampard Centre.

STAY AND PLAY: Tuesdays, 2pm-3.30pm& Wednesdays 10am - 11am:

Tuesday sessions are for children aged 2yrs and over & Wednesday sessions are for 1yr - 2.5yrs. Younger siblings are welcome.

This is our original Stay, Play & Story / Song time session with Nursery Readiness topics incorporated into specific sessions.

This session is also an opportunity to interact with your child's play within a safe environment, offering age appropriate toys and resources.  The fantastic selection of resources that are used in this session enhance the 7 areas of development; skills that children require for moving onto nursery.

Children are never too young to start enjoying books.  Story time with your child is a wonderful way to bond and spend time together.  It is an enjoyable experience that has many benefits.  When you read to your child you are filling up their imagination and allowing them to dream and pretend.  Reading to your child on a regular basis is the best way to develop your child’s language skills and help them to become independent readers.

Occasionally, we incorporate some art & craft and messy play activities within this group.

This session takes place at the Centre.

BABY MASSAGE: Wednesdays, 10.30am-11.30am:

Here at the Children's Centre we understand that massaging your new baby is an essential bonding time for you both and can be used as a time for you to relax.

By reassuring your baby through positive touch and maintaining eye contact it becomes easier to pick up on your baby's cues.

Premature, Caesarean and babies who birth traumatically may be in shock and benefit from touch; the emotional development of a premature child is heightened by massage. It is also recognized that massaged babies may have fewer health problems and both sleep and feed better. It is now widely accepted that this helps them to gain weight faster.

Below are some of the recognised advantages that babies benefit from Baby Massage:-

This session runs over a 4-week period and booking is required. The Group meets in The Lampard Centre, a local Community Centre, just a short walk from the Children's Centre.

UNDER 1's: Thursdays, 10am-11am:

This group provides the opportunity for parents to socialise in a safe and friendly environment with their babies away from active toddlers.

Each week a variety of different resources such as sensory, messy play, clay and paint are set out to encourage babies to explore, play and communicate with others of a similar age, therefore developing their social interaction and many other emerging skills.

During this session there is always support from the Sure Start team, if you wish to discuss any concerns you may have with regards to breastfeeding, weaning, accident prevention, safety in the home or daily routines.

The session also gives parents the opportunity to self-weigh their babies.

SELF WEIGH: Tuesday 9am - 12pm & Thursday 10am - 11am (during our under 1's session)
